Youth with a Mission Colorado@Cimarron was founded in 1975
to help followers of Jesus become disciples who then
go into nations to make more disciples.
Where is YWAM Colorado @ Cimarron Located...
YWAM Cimarron is located in virgin forest at 8,600 ft., on the western slope of the Colorado Rockies. The base is located about midway between two of Colorado's well known ski resorts. Telluride is about 75 miles southwest and Mount Crested Butte can be found about 75 miles northeast.
One could not ask for any more dramatic seasons! Because of our altitude, summer daytime temperatures are in the 70s to low 80s with cool nights. Our numerous streams, lakes and trails beckon you for serious hiking or leisurely walks. Fall brings colors galore from mountainsides of aspen trees, while our late-arriving spring is alive with new growth. Winter is a magical time with a serious accumulation of powdery snow. (We really do live in Narnia). Snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, sledding, and ice skating are all available. Our nation's newest National Park, The Black Canyon of the Gunnision, is located only about 25 miles from the base.
Here is a little about YWAM Colorado @ Cimarron...
The campus itself is set on 75 acres of heavily wooded land and bisected by Coal Creek. The base is situated 11 miles south of US 50, and 28 miles from Montrose, where we do most of our shopping. The base generates over 80% of our electricity using a water-powered generator. Our spring-fed water is so pure we are one of 13 water districts in Colorado that are not required to treat their water.
From the first training class, pioneered in 1976, we have seen remarkable growth, development of ministries and many voluntary full-time workers who have been trained, equipped and sent out to many nations. We have sent teams to countries like Bhutan, China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Thailand, Tibet, Vietnam, Nepal, Turkey, and at home with Native Americans. God has called YWAM Cimarron to be a training and sending base, which continues to be what we do best.
We have about 20 full time staff and numerous volunteers at any given time. Our desire as a base is to make everyone that joins us, staff, students, volunteers, and visitors, a part of our mountain family.
What makes YWAM Colorado @ Cimarron the Place for You!
If you are a person that needs Starbucks and urban amenities, you won't find a lot of that here. But, if you are looking to get away with God in the stillness of a beautiful setting this is the place for you!
History of Youth With a Mission
It all started when a 20-year-old American college student, who was in the Bahamas on a singing tour, spent some time in prayer. As he leaned back in his bed and looked up, he saw what he called a "mental movie." He saw waves on a map. The waves turned into young people, going to every continent, sharing the good news about Jesus. "Was that really you, Lord?" he asked.
This radical idea, that young people could be missionaries, stayed with this young man, Loren Cunningham. Four years later, in 1960, he started an organization with that idea expressed even in its name: Youth With A Mission. Today, Youth With A Mission (YWAM) has grown into one of the world's largest Christian mission organizations. The story of how YWAM began and how it grew is a story of God's direction and God's grace in using ordinary people from countries all over the world.
