The Kinnauri of India

Kinnaur is the valley of the Trans Himalayan river Satluj and its tributary Baspa. Kinnaur is the North-East Frontier district of the state of Himachal Pradesh in India. Before India's independence, Kinnaur formed part of the erstwhile Bhushhar State. After India's independence in 1947, Kinnaur formed the Chini Tehsil of Mahasu District. As part of the reorganization of border areas, the Kinnaur District was formed on May 1, 1960, to enable speedy development of this area.

The Kinnauri people live in the district of Kinnaur, a beautifully remote and mountainous region bordering Tibet. This district is home to about 80,000 people, most of whom have never heard of Jesus Christ.

In Lower Kinnaur, there are roughly 200 believers, all located in the capital, Reong Peo. The church is growing in Rekong Peo, spreading to neighboring villages despite the barriers of the rugged landscape and intense persecution. One village has a new fellowship of believers and another village has just a single family of new believers standing strong for Christ.
